On this episode of Vigilantes Radio Live, Coach Dini welcomes nurse practitioner, entrepreneur, and children’s author Amy Hawk for a story-driven conversation about courage, imagination, representation, and rethinking the traditional fairy tale.

Amy is the creator of The Tales of Rumpus, a magical family adventure centered on Princess Caitlin, a determined young royal who sets out to prove she is ready to rule. Along the way, Caitlin encounters challenges, builds friendships, confronts fear, and discovers that becoming a leader requires much more than simply wearing a crown.

Inspired after the birth of her niece, Amy began questioning whether the fairy tales many children grow up with still reflect the world they live in today. Her answer was to create a different kind of princess—one who doesn’t wait to be saved but learns to trust her own strength, voice, kindness, and ability to lead.

Coach Dini and Amy explore how her work in emergency medicine has influenced the way she understands courage and compassion, what children can learn from overcoming self-doubt, why representation goes deeper than appearance, and how The Tales of Rumpus became the beginning of an expanding fictional universe.

They also discuss balancing medicine, entrepreneurship, and creativity—and the powerful idea that sometimes the greatest obstacle between a child and their dream is simply believing they aren’t capable of achieving it.
