Uk: У Львові, у великому старому будинку на вул. Личаківська, жила сім'я Шевчуків. Старша сестра Анна та молодший брат Олександр, разом з батьками, любили збиратися за великим дубовим столом в їхній кухні.
En: In Lviv, in a large old house on Lychakivska Street, lived the Shevchuk family. The elder sister Anna and younger brother Oleksandr, along with their parents, loved to gather around the large oak table in their kitchen.

Uk: Саме цей стіл був місцем рішучих сімейних спорів. Але це були не примхи чи образи, у центрі уваги був борщ.
En: This table was the scene of decisive family disputes. But these were not tantrums or insults, the focus was on borscht.

Uk: Борщ в сім'ї Шевчуків був не просто стравою, це була традиція, майстерність і предмет престижу.
En: Borscht in the Shevchuk family was not just a dish, it was a tradition, skill, and a matter of prestige.

Uk: Олександр, випускник кулінарного коледжу, вважав, що борщ треба готувати з молодою свининою, а подробиці для бульйону краще витягувати із підбереззя.

Uk: Анна, жінка з вищою біологічною освітою, заперечувала. Вона вважала, що єдність борщу в м'ясі не пошукується. Вона стверджувала, що якщо пропорційно змішати овочі, додавши ніжної бурячок і ароматну петрушку, можна досягти ідеального смаку.
En: Anna, a woman with a higher biological education, disagreed. She believed that the unity of borscht is not in the meat. She argued that by proportionally mixing vegetables, adding tender beets and fragrant parsley, one could achieve the ideal taste.

Uk: Але батьки, з якими не можна було не погодитися, були проти обох. Вони стверджували, що їх бабуня завжди готувала борщ із гусака і піджаркою з шкварками, а отже, уже століттями перевірений рецепт інших не потребує.
En: But the parents, with whom one could not disagree, were against both. They claimed that their grandmother always cooked borscht with goose and cracklings, and therefore, a recipe that had been tried and true for centuries did not need any changes.

Uk: Тож, зробивши глибокий вдих, зібравшись з силами, Анна зробила пропозицію.
En: So, taking a deep breath, gathering their strength, Anna made a suggestion.

Uk: "Завтра неділя," сказала вона. "Чому б не влаштувати сімейний куховарський турнір? Всі приготують свій варіант борщу, а бабуня виступить головним суддею".
En: "Tomorrow is Sunday," she said. "Why not have a family cooking tournament? Everyone will prepare their version of borscht, and grandma will be the head judge."

Uk: Було тихо. Потім Олександр посміхнувся і кивнув головою. Батьки теж згодилися.
En: There was silence. Then Oleksandr smiled and nodded. The parents agreed too.

Uk: Наступного дня була велика битва. Зранку дим від буряків, гусака і свинячого м'яса забивав усі вікна на Личаківській.
En: The next day was a great battle. In the morning, the smoke from beets, goose, and pork filled all the windows on Lychakivska Street.

Uk: Але коли вечеря, суддя присяжний, сіла за великий стіл, їй здавалося, що ось усе виявиться. Вона спробувала кожен борщ, довго думала, а потім обрали її рішення.
En: But when dinnertime came, with the judge sworn in, she felt that everything would turn out well. She tried each borscht, pondered for a long time, and then made her decision.

Uk: "Всі вони смачні," сказала вона. "Але найсмачніший — це коли вони всі разом". Так і сталося.
En: "They are all delicious," she said. "But the most delicious is when they are all together." And so it was.

Uk: З того дня в сім'ї Шевчуків готували три види борщу, а на великому столі на Личаківській завжди кипіло життя.
En: From that day on, the Shevchuk family cooked three types of borscht, and life always bubbled on the big table on Lychakivska Street.

Uk: Всі були задоволені, і особливо бабуня.
En: Everyone was satisfied, especially grandma.
