On November 11, 2024, Richard Allen was found guilty on all charges related to the 2017 murders of 13-year-old Abigail Williams and 14-year-old Liberty German in Delphi, Indiana. The jury, sequestered for 26 days, deliberated for over 19 hours before delivering the verdict. Allen, a former pharmacy technician, was convicted of two counts of murder and two counts of felony murder while committing or attempting to commit kidnapping. He faces up to 130 years in prison, with sentencing scheduled for December 20, 2024.

Prosecutors presented evidence including a video from German's cellphone capturing Allen's image and voice, an unspent bullet at the crime scene matching Allen's gun, and multiple confessions he made while in custody. The defense argued that Allen's mental state during his time in solitary confinement led to false confessions and suggested investigative missteps. Despite these claims, the jury concluded that the evidence overwhelmingly pointed to Allen's guilt in the brutal killings that had remained unsolved for over seven years.

However, not all were convinced.

The trial of Richard Allen, convicted for the 2017 murders of Abigail Williams and Liberty German in Delphi, Indiana, has faced criticism on several fronts. Concerns have been raised about the handling of Allen's mental health during his incarceration, particularly regarding his prolonged solitary confinement and the potential impact on his psychological state and subsequent confessions.
Additionally, the defense has questioned the thoroughness of the investigation, suggesting that key evidence may have been overlooked or mishandled.
These issues have sparked debate over the fairness and integrity of the judicial process in this high-profile case.

An appeal is expected.
