Six girls vanished from the streets of Washington, D.C., disappearing while walking to work, running errands, or simply trying to make it home.
Their bodies began appearing beside highways, many showing signs of sexual assault and strangulation, while a growing trail of strange evidence suggested the same predator was hunting across the city.
Then one victim was discovered with a handwritten message in her pocket, dictated by her killer and signed with the name that had begun terrifying Washington: the Freeway Phantom. But despite a massive investigation, thousands of tips and several disturbing suspects, the killer seemingly vanished, leaving behind six murders that remain unsolved more than half a century later.
