I grew up in the 80sand 90s in a small Arkansas town. As you can imagine, VERY racist area. I had a very racist family to boot. I am only attribute my disgust for any type of racism to…well just my gut instinct of shunning that shit. I was kicked out of my house at 16 for having a mixed bf and letting a black couple (highschool kids mind you) come in and use my phone to call the girl’s mom to pick them up in my neighborhood. I’m now 46 and tbh to this day I feel more accepted and at home in primarily black cities and neighborhoods. I live near a huge HBCU in Durham, NC (not sure if I can name it) and my neighborhood is 80-ish percent black. As a white person, I’m disgusted with my race. I’ve made sure my children know that we are all human and deserve respect. My oldest is married to a Puerto Rican woman, hell even my youngest son’s first little 3rd grade gf was an African American girl. We do see color in this house, BUT it’s so that we can always remember that racism is alive and well as much much as we’d like it not to be. I want to make sure they recognize it and speak up, and if they can’t speak up, I want them on the right side humanity. Much love y’all. ♥️
