After an affair with Jean-Baptiste Godin de Sainte-Croix, she conspired to poison her family members to inherit their wealth. She used her knowledge of poisons, learned from a notorious poisoner, to kill her father and brothers, and even attempted to murder her husband. After her accomplice’s death and a search that uncovered incriminating evidence, Marie-Madeleine fled but was eventually captured. She was tried, found guilty, and executed in 1676, becoming a symbol of unchecked ambition and betrayal.
