show moreCustomers are banned from personalizing Titleist golf balls with the anti-Biden slogan "Let's Go Brandon." The golf equipment company alleges that the popular rallying cry against President Joe Biden is forbidden because the saying is "inconsistent" with Titleist's "values or brand identity."
In October, an NBC Sports reporter either misheard or went into damage control when the crowd at Talladega Superspeedway was chanting, "F*** Joe Biden!" The NBC Sports reporter claimed that the NASCAR crowd was cheering on winning driver Brandon Brown by screaming, "Let's go, Brandon!"
The video clip immediately went viral. The anti-Biden slogan morphed into a lightning rod that sparked hip-hop songs that notched the top spots on iTunes and ignited multiple controversies.
Now, Titleist has prohibited the words "Let's Go Brandon" from being printed on golf balls.
In late October, social media strategist Caleb Hull ordered Titleist golf balls personalized with the phrase: "Let's Go Brandon!"
However, Titleist emailed Hull to inform him that the company would not sell him the personalized golf balls.
"Thank you for your recent My Titleist golf ball order," the email reads. "Unfortunately, we cannot process your custom order in its current form and, as such, we have held it in our system. Should you like to provide a different customization, please let us know so we may update your order and release it for processing."
When you attempt to create a custom golf ball with the message "Let's Go Brandon" on the Titleist website, you receive a notification that states: "Sorry, one or more of the words you have chosen cannot be used. Please see our Terms and Conditions to learn more about what we will imprint."
The Titleist terms and conditions reads: "Acushnet Company (the parent company of Titleist) reserves the right to reject orders for imprints on our products that may, in our sole discretion, be inconsistent with our company values or brand identity, including, but not limited to logos, designs and/or personalizations that are negative in nature, advocate violence or illegal activity, or are slurs, hateful, threatening, libelous, defamatory, vulgar, obscene or pornographic."
Fox News noted, "It is unclear which of those categories the phrase 'Let’s Go Brandon' violated."
The outlet added, "Certain political and vulgar messages that Fox News Digital tested on the website did not receive the same error message including 'F Trump,' 'ACAB,' 'Antifa,' 'Kill Cops,' 'Impeach Trump' and 'Kill Trump.'"
