show moreAfter flying to his father’s home for a court-ordered visit, Dylan sent several text messages to his mother and his friends before suddenly going silent on the night of November 18, 2012. It was the last time anyone would hear from him.
Mark Redwine contacted Dylan’s mother to ask if he’d heard from their son, which sparked a missing person case that would continue for the next several months. Throughout several interviews during this time, Redwine would have conflicting stories about Dylan in the hours leading up to his disappearance, sparking red flags with investigators.
In June of 2013, partial remains that were later confirmed to belong to Dylan were discovered not far from Redwine’s home. It wasn’t until 2015, however, that Dylan’s skull would be discovered by a pair of hikers, nearly five miles away from where the original remains had been found. The skull showed evidence of violence, and in 2017, Mark Redwine was arrested for Dylan’s murder.
During the lengthy trial process, which included years of delays due to, among other things, a global health crisis, the prosecution would go on to say that Redwine murdered Dylan in a fit of rage after his son confronted him about some compromising photos he’d found of Redwine, including him wearing women’s clothing, wearing a diaper, and consuming feces.
Redwine was found guilty of second-degree murder and child abuse and sentenced to 48 years in prison.
