More plastic in the ocean than fish. It’s a startling thought that is becoming our reality. Experts say it could happen as soon as 2050. With 8 billion pounds of plastic waste flowing into the oceans each year, it should come as no surprise.
When plastic was invented it was praised for its ability to “last a lifetime.” Well, in sad irony, it does -- in fact it lasts a dozen lifetimes. Plastic has changed practically everything in modern society and our world is drowning it.
It is estimated that 100,000 marine animals die from plastic ingestion annually. However, although plastic bottles and straws make news headlines, they are far from the only source of waste. Society’s appetite for consumer goods and fashion is insatiable. In fact, the fashion industry is often cited as one of the biggest offenders along with single-use plastic consumers.
Our society has become reliant on polyesters and other non-organic fibers. It’s hard to imagine a functional wardrobe without stretch and performance. Can you imagine your bras, pants, underwear without it?
Polyester is not going anywhere but our sourcing of it can be adapted. That’s the inspiration behind swaggr. We wanted to identify a way to create a comfortable, performance sock without adding to an already stifling problem.
Our vision is to conserve and create a cleaner ocean so that the marine life remain healthier and live longer. Swaggr socks are made from up to 91% recycled plastic bottles. More than two bottles are used to make each pair of socks.
We are incredibly proud of the quality of our socks and we know you will love them. Wear with pride and walk with swaggr. No ocean is a trash can.
