There are things going on in the shadows of this world that I don’t want to think about. Unspeakable things. I would prefer to live in my bright, clean world, blissfully unaware of the evil incarnate playing out in dirty rooms and exotic locales around the globe.I rather like living in my comfortable home with the “stay cozy” throw pillow on my bed, the pictures of people I love on our fridge, the plaques of positivity on the walls, and the green bottle of dish detergent perched on my kitchen sink. And yet, it’s necessary to get uncomfortable sometimes; to mourn with those who mourn and weep with those who weep.

A few weeks ago, I watched the movie, The Sound of Freedom. I wept for the precious children enslaved in the dirty rooms and the exotic locales. I mourned with their parents. I wanted to throw up. I felt gutted, like every complaining thought was ripped from my heart. I closed my eyes and forced myself to open them again, to be a witness to their pain and suffering.

When I was a child, I ridiculously thought that when I closed my eyes, everyone around me disappeared. And as an adult, I realize how easy it is to think that if you shut your eyes to the evils in this world, they disappear. But they don’t. They grow like fungus in the darkness.

I want to bring the light to the shadows. Jesus promises in John 1:5 that, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.

”You and I can shine our light by watching this movie which exposes evil. And we can help stop human trafficking before it starts with prayer and financial support. Consider giving a financial gift to our sister ministry, World Concern. That’s part of the wonderful work they do in our world’s darkest places. We’ll talk about that on the show next week.

Today, Brandon Purdie, Head of Theatrical Distribution for Angel Studios, is our special guest. Join Brandon and I for a conversation about the movie and its impact. Click PLAY to open your eyes and your heart today. You are Loved, Erica
