20 NOV 2024 · This week, “At the Edge of It All” was joined by James Fabionar, associate professor of teacher education, who discussed the nuances of ethnic studies. He talked about his background, coming from a family of immigrants, and how that led him to explore his culture and ethnic studies. He also talked about the history and evolution of ethnic studies, what it is and what it is not, and why it plays an important role in students’ lives.
18 NOV 2024 · Krystn Shrieve thought something was off with her body, but couldn’t quite put her finger on it. After a while, when she didn’t feel any better, she got tested. It turned out she had colon cancer. This week, “At the Edge of It All” was joined by Shrieve, the director of brand marketing and communication at USD, who’s cancer-free today. She shared her inspiring journey from diagnosis to recovery and all the emotions in between. Shrieve journaled throughout the process, and has compiled those thoughts into a book called Love and Light: How My Cancer Banished Darkness for All Time.

13 NOV 2024 · Sports shaped the person Kimya Massey is today. “At the Edge of It All” was joined by USD’s new Athletic Director to kickoff a special series that will provide an inside look at the world of college sports. In today’s episode, listeners will be introduced to Massey, a former student-athlete who’s helping the next generation succeed in his current role. He talks about his background as an athlete, some of the challenges student-athletes face, and his approach to the rapidly evolving college sports landscape.

Now, how do we move forward together, regardless of the results? “At the Edge of It All” was joined by Sarah Federman, associate professor of conflict resolution at USD and author of the award-winning book Transformative Negotiation. She explained the impulse to become tribal, and how we can fight that urge to instead engage with each other and build bridges in the face of division.

Elliott also talks about her new role at the recently created Center for Embodied Equity and Neurodiversity at the University of San Diego, and how the center will equip educators with the tools they need to teach students of all educational backgrounds.
