27 OCT 2024 · India’s medal haul at the 2022 Commonwealth Games (CWG) is set to be harder to replicate in 2026, as six of the 12 medal winning sports from last time—responsible for 37 of India’s 61 medals—won’t be part of the lineup. Scheduled in Glasgow from July 23 to August 2, the 2026 Games will exclude badminton, cricket, hockey, squash, table tennis, and wrestling. Previously, shooting and archery, both strongholds for India, were also left out of the 2022 Birmingham Games.
But does India really care about the CWG? Should the government start prioritizing other international competitions instead? This week on Game Time, hosts Mihir Vasavda and Amit Kamath examine the Games' relevance and their significance for Indian athletes.
