Christian, Molly and Tara chat with 4 amazingly talented young musicians, who all give wonderful performances - the team speak with 11-year-old Isabella Shaoyi Li and play her pre-recorded performance of Valse in E minor by Chopin and 10-year-old Heidi Tauschke who also has a pre-recorded performance of ‘When the cats away’ by composer J.A. Steele. Plus 11-year-old violinist Rafael Foong gives a live performance of Study No. 28 from the Thirty-Six Studies by Federigo Fiorillo and 9-year-old Ryan Yuchen Lu performs Meditation by Jules Massenet.

Andy, Rosie and Tara chat with 4 amazingly talented young pianists, who all give stunning piano performances - 12-year-old Atticus Tan (Chopin's Nocturne), 11-year-old Hanna Cao (Northwoods Toccata by Carol Klose), 9-year-old Mika Wiley (Chopin's Waltz Op.64, No. 1 & Spring Light by Karen Tanaka) and 11-year-old Molly Lais, (Shadow Dance No 8 by Edward MacDowell).
10 DEC 2021 · Royal South Street Hour 2021 People's Choice Award - 17-year-old Maixence Williams performing 'If I Ain’t Got You’ by Alicia Keys, plus radio interview.
Maixence has been performing since she was very young and has been really refining her talents over the past few years. In 2020 she was involved in the Gondwana Choir in Sydney and in 2019, Maixence competed in Los Angeles for the World Championship in Performing Arts and won silver and bronze.
Maixence was awarded the AMEB level 7 prize for singing for South Australia and Northern Territory, was runner in the aggregate for her age group in the Royal South Street Eisteddfod and was awarded the Sutton House of Music Award for this year’s Eisteddfod. She also plays piano and is one of the two music captains at her school where she is also heavily involved in her school’s choirs.

10 DEC 2021 · Royal South Street Hour 2021 People's Choice Award - 12-year-old Chloe Walton performing her original 'Not an Ordinary Sister', plus radio interview.
Chloe is an aspiring and talented 12-year-old songwriter. She studies vocal technique and performance coaching under Dan Hamill himself at Dan Hamill Performance Coaching and has attended song writing workshops with The Music Industry and mentoring sessions with industry professionals Pam Sheyne and Richard Harris. Chloe started writing her first song 'Not an Ordinary Sister' when she was just 8 years old, about her life with her older sister with a disability. She then went on to write a song about the current global challenges we are all facing 'Fighting for Our Freedom', which was awarded 2nd place in the original song category for her age group at the Royal South Street Eisteddfod. Chloe released her first two songs earlier this year, which are streaming on all major platforms and they have also been nominated for the 2021 Funky Kids Radio Song of the Year.

10 DEC 2021 · Royal South Street Hour 2021 People's Choice Award - 17-year-old Isla Vierow performing Run Away by AURORA, plus radio interview.
Isla is a new-comer vocalist to the Royal South Street Eisteddfod and she also plays guitar and ukulele as well. Her vocal teacher and school music teacher have been very encouraging and have helped her feel more confident in sharing her beautiful voice with the world. Isla’s very first performance was for the Mildura Eisteddfod, (which was actually her first time ever singing in front of an audience) where she achieved first in both the Modern Up tempo Solo section and Contemporary up-tempo 16-18 years. Her second performance was at the Royal South Street Eisteddfod where she came first in the contemporary up-tempo 16-18 years category and also achieved 2 seconds and a third place.

10 DEC 2021 · Royal South Street Hour 2021 People's Choice Award - 13-year-old Hazel Symonds performing 'Out of Love’ by Alessia Cara, plus radio interview.
Hazel Symonds is a 13-year-old singer student of Voice Activated Mildura and the Mildura Ballet Dance Guild. She has been singing and performing since she was 5 years old, and her love of singing was evident before she could even talk. Throughout the years, Hazel has performed in many Eisteddfods and local musicals in Mildura and over the past 2 years she has had the opportunity to compete in some amazing online competitions world-wide with great success, where she has received many major awards. Hazel won a big range of awards at the Royal South Street Eisteddfod this year, including Aggregate Winner for 11 to 14 years, The Sally Bourne Musical Theatre Prize and a total of 5 first places.

The youngest performer of the Royal South Street Hour 2021 Spring Season is Olivia Servello. Olivia attends Rae’s Academy of Modern Singing & Piano and is currently taking both piano and dance lessons too. This year was Olivia's first ever performances at the Royal South Street Eisteddfod where she sang 4 songs and was awarded first place in both Screen Ballad and Contemporary Pop for the under 10 age group.

10 DEC 2021 · Royal South Street Hour 2021 People's Choice Award - The Sleeping Lake sung by Amalia Safonova and composed and performed by her brother Artemii Safonov, plus radio interview.
Artemii & Amalia won the Royal South Street Gold Medal for Original Song for The Sleeping Lake. Amalia has been entertaining audiences with solo performances at various festivals, concerts, and performance evenings for a few years already by the age of just 11! In addition to singing, Amalia has also been studying piano, flute and the violin as well as learning various dance styles such as tap and jazz. Over the last four years, Amalia has accumulated about 50 prizes at various vocal competitions in both Melbourne and internationally, and she was nominated for the “Young Artist Award 2019” at the 7 News Young Achiever Awards 2019. Artemii, like his sister, loves and appreciates classical music. At the age of 14, many have already heard and appreciated the piano and orchestral works he has composed. Artemii has repeatedly won prizes at various piano competitions in Melbourne and has claimed awards for his compositions internationally, so he is already on a clear trajectory towards his goal of becoming a professional pianist and composer. Amalia and Artemii are currently studying at the Victorian College of the Arts.

10 DEC 2021 · Royal South Street Hour 2021 People's Choice Award - 16-year-old Joe Appleton performing ‘Everything to Win’ by Derek Klena, plus radio interview.
Joe Appleton is an avid performer who has relished the chance to be on stage for 12 years already by the age of just 16. Within the Ballarat and Melbourne areas, Joe has taken part in over 20 productions. Some of Joe’s roles include ‘Fizzy’ in BLOC’s Bugsy Malone, ‘Michael Banks’ in BLOC’s Mary Poppins, ‘Beagle’ in Ballarat Centre of Music & the Arts Australian Premiere of ‘Battle of Boat’ and he has recently played ‘Miss Trunchbull’ in Matilda the Musical. Joe has trained at the Ballarat Centre for Music and the Arts for 7 years now and has been competing at Royal South Street since 2014, which this year brought him the 2021 Sally Bourne Musical Theatre Prize.

Lucy is a 15-year-old singer/songwriter from Melbourne and singing is her absolute passion, which she has been doing for almost 12 years. Lucy currently takes singing lessons and trains in all areas of dance at The Dance Company and she also takes acting classes too so she is one busy student. This year, Lucy won the Overall Aggregate Award for singing at the Royal South Street Eisteddfod, making her a two-time Aggregate award winner and she has also competed and won awards in numerous other singing competitions.
