    17 JUL 2022 · Don Giovanni, K. 527 (Il dissoluto punito, ossia il Don Giovanni, literally The Rake Punished, or Don Giovanni) is an opera in two acts with music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Italian libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte. A work based on the legends of Don Juan, fictional libertine and seducer, it was premiered in 1787. Although sometimes classified as comic, it blends comedy, melodrama and supernatural elements. A staple of the standard operatic repertoire, Don Giovanni is one of the most-performed operas worldwide. It has also proved a fruitful subject for writers and philosophers.

    8 APR 2022 · Felix Mikhailovich Blumenfeld (Russian: Фе́ликс Миха́йлович Блуменфе́льд) was a Russian composer, conductor, pianist, and teacher. He was born in Kovalevka, Kherson Governorate, Russian Empire (today - part of Kirovohrad, Ukraine), the son of Austrian Jew Mikhail Frantsevich Blumenfeld and the Polish Marie Szymanowska, and studied composition at the St. Petersburg Conservatoryunder Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and piano under Fedor Stein between 1881 and 1885. He then taught piano there himself from 1885 until 1918, whilst also serving as conductor of the Mariinsky Theatre until 1911.
