We should never laugh or make fun of other people. Shenart knew this, but he did not give a rat’s behind. He made fun of Rabbit Man. Rabbit was born from a curse. He looked like a rabbit and was sort of deformed. Rabbit passed by my house every evening and Shenart knew when. He waited for Rabbit as he sat on my front porch.
Shenart: Yo, Rabbit! Look at those ears. They are mighty long. Your ears are so long, I bet you drag and trip over them trying to get in your front door. Need some help with them? I’ll get you a jack lift for them for Christmas.
Rabbit Man: Shen, I know you ain’t tryin’ to joke. You don’t look no better than I do. Your lips are so big, if you said boo, it looks like it would pop you in the forehead. Gonna buy you a muzzle for Christmas. Shenart got angry when Rabbit lashed back at him. He could give a joke, but he couldn’t take a joke. Shenart began to throw rocks at Rabbit.
Shenart: Get away from here man. Don’t want to see you in this neighborhood again. Shenart was a bad influence on the children in the neighborhood when it came to Rabbit man. The children ran after him and made fun of him too. I felt that was the time to step in and put a stop to it.
Gail: Shenart! Leave that man alone! You all ought to be ashamed of yourselves picking on that poor helpless man. When the children’s parents saw me yelling, they decided to call their children in the house. The parents laughed and picked at Rabbit Man too. They were no better than their children.
Gail: Shenart! Get in this house right now!
When I told Shenart the story about how Rabbit Man’s mother was mistreated in life and how she was cursed giving birth to him, Shenart cried. What Shenart did to Rabbit Man changed his life forever. Rabbit Man never showed his face in the day time again. He just wanted to hide himself from the world. Shenart was sad and tried to find him to apologize, but he could not find him.

Gail: Shenart, I’ve got to hurry up and get you home. I think it’s against the law to even have you as a pet.
Shenart: Nobody will recognize me in my disguise. Before we go home, I want something to eat.
Gail: I’ll stop and get you some Good Friday’s Chicken. That’s your favorite.
I drive up into Good Friday’s Chicken to order chicken for Shenart. When I do, Shenart wants to joke the lady at the window.
Shenart: Hey, Ma’am! Please make sure the chicken is cooked. The last time we ordered chicken, it got up off of our plates and ran. (Shenart gives a silly laugh).
Gail: Okay, Shenart! Enough with the jokes.
When I received the chicken, I drove Shenart back home. Shenart ate like a pig. His stomach was swollen when he was finished. I ate some too. All I wanted to do was lie down. I got into bed to take a nap. Then Shenart wants to take a nap too. He follows me into my room.
Gail: Shenart! Where do you think you're going? You can't sleep in here with me.
Shenart: Why not?
Gail: Because the last time you slept in here with me, I couldn't sleep comfortable with you. Your tail was wrapped in the covers, and I woke up freezing because you had the covers. Wrestling with you, the bed broke down, and I can't afford another one. You've got to sleep in your own bed.
Shenart: Fine then! I'm going to take my big behind back to the shed.
Later on in the day after a nap, I went to sit down on the couch to watch TV. I got the remote, and when I went to sit down, I hit the floor. I didn't realize the couch was gone.
Gail: Man, that rascal done took the couch! If I don't do something with him, he's going to have everything out there in that shed with him. I'm going to look around one day, and I won't have anything for me. I'm going to show him something! Shenart!

Shenart was just a baby kangaroo when I found him. He was an adorable little pet, but he grew and grew and grew. Shenart was too big to keep, and he took over my house completely....
