John's story moves from the spectre of racism to a question over national and religious identity and finally ends with the village of Sychar believing that Jesus is 'Saviour of the world… all the world'. And the woman with the unfortunate marital history, the woman who happened to come for water as Jesus was resting by the well, is the centre of the story.
