  • SCOTUS Gives Kari Lake the Brush Off on Election Fraud While Trump Faces Gag Orders 4/23/24

23 APR 2024 · The Supreme Court dismissed an appeal filed by Arizona Senate candidate Kari Lake yesterday and they did so without comment. It was a complete brush off her lawsuit challenging the use of electronic voting machines in Arizona. Lake had questioned whether the machines gave a fair and accurate vote count. She and her team provided no evidence that the machines had ever been hacked or that she had ever been harmed by any miscount - only that it could happen in the future. Two lower courts dismissed the suit, before the Supreme Court did the same. Over at the Trump hush money trial, opening arguments centered on election corruption and influencing. Prosecutors said Trump “orchestrated a criminal scheme to corrupt the 2016 presidential election”. The defense said “there’s nothing wrong with trying to influence an election – it’s called democracy”.  Outside the courthouse, Trump tested the limits of his gag order calling Michael Cohen, his former attorney, a liar. Cohen will likely be a witness in this case and Trump has been ordered not to attack jurors or witnesses. Contempt of court anyone? Pulitzer prize winning journalist and author David Cay Johnston will swing by to talk about it all. We are so excited to welcome Mark Farrell to the show. The San Francisco mayoral candidate is a moderate Democrat. He has served as a Supervisor in San Francisco and as mayor following the death of Ed Lee. Farrell says people don’t feel safe in the city and the once thriving downtown business area has collapsed. With his background in law and investment banking, he may have what it takes to bring SF back. We will ask him how he plans to do it.  Actor John Malina will join us. You may know him from the West Wing, Scandal, Big Bang Theory and more. He comes bearing advice for Tony and his duck situation.  The Mark Thompson Show  4/23/24 Patreon subscribers are the backbone of the show! • As Trump Simmers at Trial, Judge BBQs Rudy on Money Claims 4/22/24

22 APR 2024 · On the first day of former President Donald Trump's trial, the proceedings started  with a focus on key witnesses, including David Pecker.  Pecker is a longtime ally of Trump and the CEO of American Media Inc. and has been known to kill damaging stories about Trump in a "catch and kill" scheme.  We'll review the way it was done. Pecker's testimony is anticipated to shed light on Trump's connections to hush-money payments and potential campaign finance violations, adding another layer to the complex legal battle surrounding Trump. Meatime, a federal bankruptcy judge is allowing creditors to hire a specialized team to investigate Rudy Giuliani’s sources of income, assets and liabilities.  Giuliani’s chapter 11 case was filed three days after he lost a defamation lawsuit brought by two poll workers.  Some political analysts are tying the passage of the Ukraine funding bill in the house to a sinking presidential campaign for Donald Trump. Does his loss on this issue show that his control of Republicans is slipping?  We’ll hash those issues out with our favorite Britisher, journalist Anthony Davis.   Courtney is calling us all back around the fire pit for another story on True Crime Corner.  The Mark Thompson Show  4/22/24 Patreon subscribers are the backbone of the show! 19 APR 2024 · Days after Iran sent a barrage of missiles and drones toward Israel, that were largely knocked down, Israel responded. Iranian officials say their air defenses intercepted three drones and there were no reports of missiles. The back and forth, at a time when Israel is already at war with Hamas, is stoking fears of a regional escalation. • Trump Throws Tantrum Over Jury Selection…Legal Analysis by Former Fed Prosecutor David Katz 4/18/24

18 APR 2024 · A courtroom surprise for Donald Trump! He thought he and his legal team would get to strike out as many jurors as they wanted in his criminal hush money trial. When he found out he could only remove 10 people from jury consideration, he went off! In his rant, Trump said he deserves unlimited strikes because he's been given the second worst venue in the country. Today, jury selection continues with another 96 people headed to the courthouse for jury duty. Former Federal Prosecutor David Katz will be in to discuss the proceedings and why being charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records doesn't warrant a defendant having unlimited jury strikes, no matter how much they think they deserve it. House Speaker Mike Johnson is in a bit of a pickle. He needs help from Democrats but the optics of getting that help could make him look weak within the Republican party. Seems like the recent trip to Mar-a-Lago wasn't as magical as he'd hoped.

Even though the wife of Justice Clarence Thomas supported Trump’s effort to subvert the 2020 election, Thomas will not recuse himself. During his questioning yesterday, he appeared to minimize the insurrection saying “there have been many violent protests that have interfered with proceedings.” He then asked if this obstruction charge had been applied to other protests as if anything could approach similarity to the storming of the US. • Trump Talks Smack on Iran… Biden Warns, While Urging Restraint 4/15/24

15 APR 2024 · Trump’s drum beat for war with Iran is a chilling reminder of a Trump foreign policy that was chaotic and filled with escalating tensions. This as President Biden urges restraint in an effort to prevent a wider escalation of the conflict. Will President Biden be on the ballot in Ohio and Alabama?  Republicans will make the call. The GOP argument for keeping Trump on the ballot in states trying to use the insurrection clause was that voters should decide. They may not give voters the same respect when it comes to a Democratic candidate.  Richard Greene, the Civics Dean will stop by to explain.  Monday brings Courtney to the studio to talk True Crime.  Gather round the YouTube to hear about the Stayner Family. Courtney will tell the story of the kidnapping of Steven Stayner and the conviction of his brother, the Yosemite Killer.
