The theory of cognitive dissonance was coined in 1957 by American social psychologist Leon Festinger, who outlined the internal, silent chaos that can take place when our actions don't match with our beliefs, or when our long-held notions don't line up with facts. Joshua and NikiMarie delve into the many different types of cognitive dissonance, and -- as always -- provide plenty of personal anecdotes of their experiences with the mental health phenomenon.
