Once upon a time there was a king who was the wisest in all of the world. So wise was he that no one had ever befooled him, which is a rare thing, I can tell you. Now, this king had a daughter who was as pretty as a ripe apple, so that there was no end to the number of the lads who came asking to marry her. Every day there were two or three of them dawdling around the house, so that at last the old king grew tired of having them always about....

Hello, I’m Barnabas. Welcome back. I’m afraid my reading student has left me. He has a lot of fears. The journey of Wonderland scares him walking through the door of The Wonder Clock, and spinning away hour after hour from chapter to chapter, looking into every character’s life, and being held by Father Time. Well, it’s a good thing he did go.
I’m about to go into the next chapter. Chapter 11 “How boots befooled the King”. Boots uses his intelligence to outsmart a king who was the wisest in in all of the world. So so wise that no one had ever befooled him. So if you’re around, if you’re with me, sit back and listen to the tale.

This is the way that this story begins:Once upon a time there was a rich brother and a poor brother, and the one lived across the street from the other. The rich brother had all of the world’s gear that was good for him and more besides; as for the poor brother, why, he had hardly enough to keep soul and body together, yet he was contented with his lot, and contentment did not sit back of the stove in the rich brother’s house; wherefore in this the rich brother had less than the poor brother.....

Well I hope you have enjoyed the story The White Bird. Coming up next is a story title How the Good Gifts Were Used by Two. It's a story about a rich brother and a poor brother. They lived across the street from each other. You'll learn how the rich brother had less than the poor brother.
There were Saints in their days visiting. You'll learn about two saints: Saint Nicholas and Saint Christopher. They were travelers traveling to the town where the two brothers lived. It's a very interesting story. Well it's 10 o'clock. It's time to turn the page now to chapter 10: How the Good Gifts Were Used by Two.

Once there was a king, who, as time went on, found himself waxing old in years and feeble in body, so he began to think of giving up the cares of government and of taking his ease for as much of life as was left him. But here was the trouble: there were three princes, and each one of them was just as clever as the other two, so that the old king could not tell which to choose as the right one to sit in his place. He thought and thought and thought, until at last he plucked an apple off of his thinking-tree, as folks say. All three of the princes should go out into the world, and whichever of them should fetch back an apple from the Tree of Happiness should rule over all of the kingdom. And I speak the truth when I say that the apple was cheap enough even at that price. ....

Psst! You must have on your dream-cap because if you didn’t have it on, you wouldn’t be in Wonderland. And you haven’t returned to your world. You have been hearing different voices & different tales. I’m Barnabas by the way waiting for the clock to strike to unfold another tale.
What’s that?! You want to leave? But Father Time said the journey is not over for you. I’m looking at the list here. We’ve got past chapter 7 (Cousin Greylegs). I guess I better check that off the list.
Uh! Oh! No, we’re past chapter 8 (One Good Turn Deserves Another). I’m behind time. And what do you want to leave for being weighed down by the cares of your world like the apple tree in this last tale, One Good Turn Deserves Another. I am here to help you get away from those cares. Stay in Wonderland just a little while longer.
Yep! It’s 900. It’s time to turn the page now. Let’s start a new chapter.

Once upon a time there was a lad who was a fisherman, and every morning he shouldered his net, and went down to the river to catch fish to sell in the town. One morning as he walked beside the edge of the water, he came upon a great tall stork caught in a trap that had been set for the water-rats.
It was a tender heart that the young fisherman had under his jacket, so when he saw Father Longlegs in such a pickle he waded out into the water, among the reeds and arrowheads to where the other was, and loosened the noose from about his leg.
The storks bring good-luck to folks some people say, and that was what happened to the young fisherman.“One good turn deserves another,” says Father Longlegs; “cross your heart three times, cast your net into the water yonder, and see what you catch.” So the lad did as he was told, and when he drew his net to the shore, there was just one fish in it.
Yes; just one fish, but that was worth the catching, I can tell you, for the scales were all of pure silver and gold, so that it glistened like the moon on smooth ice, and it was most wonderful to see. ...

I’m turning the pages now. The end of chapter 7.
You’ve just heard the story of Cousin Greylegs, Great Red Fox, and Grandfather Mole in the last episode. You’ve learned something about roguery and how Cousin Greylegs and the Great Red Fox made their living.
They remind me of men in roguery. There are rogue landlords never doing what they are supposed to do. Never fixing anything, but you pay a tremendous amount of money a month. The roof leaks, the floor rots, and the home was never worth living in. One person moves out and the next one moves in. The landlord continues to pocket money. Rogue landlords. Rogue rip-offs and making that reputation for themselves. It’s not a good thing.
When you don’t do the right thing, you can’t have any good luck. Sooner or later wrong doing can catchup with you. It makes bad business, and no one will want to deal with you anymore. When you’re always full of tricks and dishonesty. That is the meaning that I find in the word Roguery in the Wonder Clock tale looking at reality.
It is now eight o’clock.

IN those days the Great Red Fox and Cousin Grey Legs, the wolf, we’re great cronies, and whenever you would see one you might be sure the other was not far away. The Great Red Fox was a master - hand at roguery, and Cousin Greylegs, the wolf, came close behind him. That was how they made their living. …

Todays Topic: America “Sister Golden Hair”
Hi! I’m Gail Nobles, and I hope you’re enjoying the Wonder Clock. The most recent story you’ve heard has been chapter 6 The Princess Golden Hair and the Great Black Raven.
“Once upon a time there was a king who had 3 daughters and the youngest name was Golden Hair, was the prettiest maiden to be found within the four ends of the earth.” _____ Howard Pyle "The Wonder Clock"
Now lets talk about the song by the band America from their fifth album Hearts in 1975 written by Gerry Beckley titled Sister Golden Hair. It was their second single to reach number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, remaining in the top position for one week. Beckly says:
“There was no actual sister gold hair. The lyrics were inspired by the works of Jackson Browne. It was that style of his that led to a song of mine Sister Golden Hair.”
Gerry Beckly said he played the 12 string guitar and overdubbled the prominent slide guitar. I love the sound of that slide guitar.
(Annoucer making sound)
I love the lyrics also of Sister Golden Hair.
Well I tried to make it Sunday, but I got so damn depressed
That I set my sights on Monday and I got myself undressed
I ain't ready for the altar but I do agree there's times
When a woman sure can be a friend of mine
Well, I keep on thinkin' 'bout you, sister golden hair surprise
And I just can't live without you, can't you see it in my eyes? …
America “Sister Golden Hai “ has been today’s topic. And you’ll be hearing more story of the Wonder Clock about Princes Golden Hair.
And as for the great black Raven, it was a Raven no longer, but the handsome Prince in all of the world … He kissed the princess golden hair and said: “Now indeed have I found my true bride and none other …”_____ Howard Pyle "The Wonder Clock"
