This year is special because we were able to bring my dad on with us to talk about how he juggled parenthood, becoming a dad again a bit later in life while maintaining a demanding position at a global pharmaceutical company and pursuing his passion for music. He is an established musician with a start in street performing in San Francisco which grew into a music career that has taken him on tour around the world and having his music sampled by Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Anderson Paak, Busta Rhymes and more! Seems like the mama of 3 that joined us in this episode experienced a bit of both, because after building a family, a business, helping close to 200 families find their homes and employing other working parents – Zherranne and her husband have built a life they can be proud of. They met in high school and even now remain sweethearts as they work together to make all their dreams come true. Zherranne takes us on her journey going through school, getting a job then being able to quit that job to work with her husband to build a successful and fulfilling business where they get to help other families build through home ownership. In addition to creating a safe space for her kids to visit while she works, she has been able to employ other working parents and allow them to parent and work in a family friendly environment. Juggling mom/wife life with work life can be stressful and tough but her love of Disney helps her bond with her family and gives her a creative and fun outlet as a digital creator. She and her partner had an idea and ran with it to create a community space where furry pet lovers can not only come to get all their essential supplies, but they can also come socialize with other animal lovers! Their store Shipyard K9 provides a nearby option in the community for folks that can’t travel far including elders, and it’s also creating an opportunity for her kids to learn about responsibility, business and marketing. As a woman of color business owner she is one of very few in the industry and this representation matters! She’s been able to accomplish all of this while holding down a 9-5 job and raising her children – oh and did I mention, she lost about 100 pounds to get healthier for her family!
