10 MAY 2022 · The return of Covid-19 and the strict policy enacted by the Chinese government to prevent a new wave of the pandemic are having significant repercussions on the activity at Shanghai’s port, the largest in the world for goods handled. Currently, due to the decrease in port activity, transport of raw materials essential to the large-scale construction sector has slowed down. According to logistics analysis company Windward, 20% of the more than 9,000 container ships operating globally are now stuck in Shanghai's roadstead while waiting for the green light to enter the port. This phenomenon has an inevitable impact on costs: before Covid, transporting a container from Italy to China cost $1,500; today, the price has shot up to $12,000.
