Story Transcript:

Af: Onder die warm middagson, in 'n klein dorpie langs die rivier, het 'n knus restaurant genaamd "Die Groot Krokodil" gestaan.
En: Under the warm afternoon sun, in a small village by the river, there stood a cozy restaurant called "Die Groot Krokodil."

Af: Dit was 'n plek waar almal gelag het, stories gedeel het, en natuurlik, uitmuntende disse geniet het.
En: It was a place where everyone laughed, shared stories, and of course, enjoyed excellent dishes.

Af: In hierdie dorpie het 'n jong man genaamd Jacques gewoon, wat altyd honger was vir avontuur en, natuurlik, vir lekker kos.
En: In this village lived a young man named Jacques, who was always hungry for adventure and, of course, for delicious food.

Af: Op 'n besige middag stap Jacques die restaurant binne, sy maag grom luider as 'n honger leeu.
En: One busy afternoon, Jacques walked into the restaurant, his stomach growling louder than a hungry lion.

En: The place was bustling; forks and knives clattered and groups chattered like bees around a honey pot.

En: Jacques found a seat at a small table near the kitchen, his eyes wide with excitement at the aromatic meals swirling around him.

En: While Jacques waited for his order, he reached for his hands to wipe them clean.

En: Just then, without thinking twice, he grabbed a white, cone-shaped object that tastefully lay on a shelf next to him and began rubbing it on his hands.

Af: Lagbuie het deur die restaurant gerol. Jacques was verward tot 'n kelnerin naderstorm en uitasem verduidelik dat wat hy in sy hande had, nie 'n sier servet was soos hy gedink het nie, maar die sjef se hoed!
En: Laughter rolled through the restaurant. Jacques was confused until a waitress rushed over, out of breath, and explained that what he had in his hands was not a decorative napkin as he had thought, but the chef's hat!

Af: Rooi van skaamte, het Jacques opgespring om verskoning te vra, maar die sjef self het met 'n breë glimlag uit die kombuis gestap.
En: Blushing with embarrassment, Jacques jumped up to apologize, but the chef himself stepped out of the kitchen with a broad smile.

Af: Hy het sy hoed terug verower en smeulend na Jacques gekyk.
En: He reclaimed his hat and looked smugly at Jacques.

Af: Die hele restaurant het stil geword en gewag vir die sjef se reaksie.
En: The whole restaurant fell silent, waiting for the chef's reaction.

Af: Maar in plaas daarvan om kwaad te wees, het die sjef skielik begin lag, sy bors het op en af geskommel soos 'n oompie wat 'n goeie grap gehoor het.
En: But instead of getting angry, the chef suddenly began to laugh, his chest heaving up and down like an uncle who had heard a good joke.

En: For the rest of the day, "Die Groot Krokodil" had a new source of amusement.
