Bertha Maria Júlia Lutz, often known simply as Bertha Lutz, was a Brazilian pioneer in the political participation of women. She played a crucial role in securing women’s suffrage in Brazil and represented her country at the United Nations Conference on International Organization. During the drafting of the UN Charter in 1945, she signed her name to the Charter and advocated for the inclusion of Article 8, which promotes gender equality and human rights.
