John is a an award-winning academic, author and macro-analyst with a focus on applied research in geopolitics, global political economy and policy studies and is a political economist at the University of Cambridge and a Senior Fellow at the Johannesburg Institute for Advanced Studies. A weekly columnist with the Globe, he is convinced our productivity challenges and our lack of growth in median income is caused by our complacency. We don’t demand enough from our political leaders and ourselves. We rely on our natural resources and our proximity to the US, two huge economic advantages, but don’t focus on R&D, innovation, infrastructure and striving to be better.
