Story Transcript:

He: השמש ירדה על רחוב שאול המלך בתל אביב, מורידה איתה את החום של יום הקיץ.
En: The sun descended on King Saul Street in Tel Aviv, bringing with it the heat of the summer day.

He: דוד יצא מהדירה, בידו רשימת הקניות שלו, נחמדה מתחילה את המשימה הקשה שלו.
En: David stepped out of his apartment, holding his shopping list, beginning his difficult task.

He: הוא נכנס לחנות הפלאפל המקומית, שנראית כמו כל חנות פלאפל אחרת: בה סט נגרילה למיני ירקות משובחים, ניחוח של חומוס באוויר וסיר חום תת-עורר בו תחילת הרעב.
En: He entered the local falafel shop, which looked like any other falafel shop: a set of elegant vegetables, the scent of hummus in the air, and a simmering pot of hot soup that awakens the hunger in one's soul.

He: אבל דוד התמקדף כשהגיע תורו.
En: But David became flustered when it was his turn.

He: המוכר פגש אותו במבט ציפיה.
En: The seller met him with an expectant look.

He: בקושי הצליח דוד להוציא את המילה: "פלאפל".
En: David struggled to say the word, "falafel."

He: המוכר המהר להגיב, עם סדר של שאלות אחריו: "סלט?
En: The seller quickly responded with a series of questions, "Salad?

He: חומוס?
En: Hummus?

He: צ'ילי?
En: Chili?"

He: ", אחרי שדוד מנסה להגיב, המוכר רק מהיר יותר.
En: After David attempted to respond, the seller only grew faster.

He: דוד שוקע במבוך השפה המאתגר עבורו.
En: David became lost in the challenging language maze.

He: סביבו מתחילה להתפשט בלבול, של מוכר הפלאפל שאינו מבין אותו ומתוך שמחה מרים את העורבים שמתחילים להתערער על העסק.
En: Around them, confusion began to spread, as the falafel seller didn't understand David, causing a joyous uproar among the seagulls that began to flock to the scene.

He: מסביב להם, אנשים מתחילים להפקיר את מה שעושים ומסתכלים עליהם - נקרא להם "המופע הגדול של דוד" .
En: Surrounding them, people started to abandon what they were doing and watch them – calling it "David's Great Show".

En: While David tried to insert words into his verbal effort, he suddenly decided to surprise them: he placed money on the table, making the seller think that he and his strange guest understood each other.

He: המוכר תקע פלאפל שטוף בחומוס אל בית-הפיתה, נתן לדוד לחזור הביתה.
En: The seller packed a falafel full of hummus into a pita, allowed David to return home.

He: ובדרך הביתה, התחשב דוד: אחר-כך אלמד את העברית, עכשיו - הפלאפל בידי.
En: And on the way home, David reflected: Afterward, I will learn Hebrew, for now – the falafel is in my hand.
