Story Transcript:

Ja: 五月のある日、春樹は彼の友達愛子と亮太と一緒に京都の嵐山竹林に行きました。
En: One day in May, Haruki went with his friends Aiko and Ryota to the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove in Kyoto.

Ja: 風がさわさわと竹を揺らし、光が細かい影を木の葉の間に揺り動かしていました。
En: The wind gently swayed the bamboo, and the light danced in intricate shadows among the leaves.

Ja: 遠くから、鳥の鳴き声が聞こえます。
En: In the distance, the chirping of birds could be heard.

Ja: 「ここ、本当に美しいね」と愛子が言いました。
En: “This place is really beautiful,” Aiko said.

Ja: 亮太も「そうだね。でも、なんだか神秘的でもある」と頷きました。
En: Ryota nodded and added, “Yeah, but it also feels somewhat mystical.”

En: When he opened the box, he found a letter and an old photograph.

Ja: 手紙には「我が家の大切な秘密、守るべし」と書かれていました。

Ja: 「これって、どういうこと？」と亮太が尋ねます。
En: “What does this mean?” Ryota asked.

Ja: 春樹は黙って考えました。
En: Haruki silently pondered.

Ja: 「これは多分、祖父が言っていた秘密だと思う。でも、これをどうするべきか...」
En: “I think this is the secret my grandfather talked about. But what should we do with it...”

Ja: 愛子は「家族の秘密ならば、大切にしなければならないね。でも、どうやって？」と心配しました。

Ja: 亮太も同様に「この写真の意味もよく分からないけど、何かの手がかりかもしれない」と言いました。
En: Ryota also said, “I don't really understand the meaning of this photograph, but it might be a clue.”

Ja: 三人はしばらく考え込みました。
En: The three of them pondered for a while.
