Nl: De flitsende lichten van Amsterdam weerspiegelden in de straat die glinsterde van de regen.
En: The flashing lights of Amsterdam reflected in the street, glistening from the rain.

Nl: Daan trapte hard op zijn oude fiets.
En: Daan pedaled hard on his old bike.

Nl: Water sproeide onder zijn wielen vandaan.
En: Water sprayed from under his wheels.

Nl: Regen viel op zijn rood-witte pet en sijpelde langs zijn gezicht.
En: Rain fell on his red and white cap, trickling down his face.

Nl: Een paraplu?
En: An umbrella?

Nl: Die had Daan nonchalant thuis gelaten, een typisch staaltje Nederlandse koppigheid.
En: Daan had casually left that at home, a typical display of Dutch stubbornness.

Nl: Daan hield van de regen.
En: Daan loved the rain.

Nl: Hij vond het fris.
En: He found it refreshing.

En: she asked Daan, extending her black umbrella towards him.

En: Umbrella, thought Daan.

Nl: Maar hij schudde zijn hoofd.
En: But he shook his head.

Nl: "Geen dank, Luna.
En: "No thanks, Luna.

Nl: Echte Nederlanders gebruiken geen paraplu.
En: True Dutch don't use umbrellas."

Nl: "Luna kreeg grote ogen.
En: Luna's eyes widened.

Nl: "Maar je wordt nat!
En: "But you're getting wet!"

Nl: " riep ze uit.
En: she exclaimed.

Nl: Daan glimlachte alleen maar.
En: Daan simply smiled.

Nl: Hij trok zijn pet dieper over zijn ogen en fietste verder door de regen.
En: He pulled his cap lower over his eyes and cycled on through the rain.

Nl: Zijn kleren plakten tegen zijn huid, maar dat deerde hem niet.
En: His clothes clung to his skin, but he didn't mind.

Nl: De regen was zijn vriend, niet zijn vijand.
En: The rain was his friend, not his enemy.

Nl: De dagen werden weken.
En: Days turned into weeks.

Nl: Daan fietste nog steeds zonder paraplu door de regen.
En: Daan continued to cycle without an umbrella in the rain.

Nl: Luna probeerde hem nog een paar keer te overtuigen, maar Daan hield vast aan zijn eigen regels.
En: Luna tried to convince him a few more times, but Daan stuck to his own rules.

Nl: Tot de dag dat de regen echt heel hard neerkwam.
En: Until the day when the rain was pouring down heavily.

En: Suddenly, he found himself tumbling, his bike halfway into the canal of Herengracht.

Nl: Hij keek op en zag Luna daar.
En: He looked up and saw Luna there.

Nl: Ze viste zijn fiets op met één hand, haar paraplu in de andere.
En: She lifted his bike with one hand, holding her umbrella in the other.

Nl: Luna keek naar Daan en schudde haar hoofd.
En: Luna gazed at Daan and shook her head.

Nl: "Nederlandse koppigheid," mompelde ze.
En: "Dutch stubbornness," she muttered.

Nl: Toch steunde Luna hem.
En: Yet, Luna supported him.

Nl: Die dag leende Daan voor de eerste keer Luna's paraplu.
En: That day, Daan borrowed Luna's umbrella for the first time.

Nl: Misschien was het niet zo erg om een paraplu te gebruiken.
En: Maybe it wasn't so bad to use an umbrella.

Nl: Genietend van de droogte onder de paraplu kwam Daan tot dat inzicht.
En: Enjoying the dryness under the umbrella, Daan came to that realization.

Nl: En hoewel hij nog steeds hield van fietsen in de regen, deed hij dat nu met Luna's paraplu.
En: And though he still loved biking in the rain, he now did it with Luna's umbrella.

Nl: Ja, Daan leerde die dag een belangrijke les: soms is het oké om een beetje koppig te zijn, maar je moet ook weten wanneer je de hulp van anderen moet accepteren.
En: Yes, that day Daan learned an important lesson: sometimes it's okay to be a little stubborn, but you must also know when to accept help from others.

En: And perhaps the umbrella wasn't as bad as he thought.

Nl: Zeker niet als hij daardoor bij Luna kon blijven.
En: Especially not if it meant he could stay with Luna.

Nl: En dus eindigde de dag van onze koppige Nederlander met aanvaarding, vriendschap, en met een gloednieuwe paraplu.
En: And so, our stubborn Dutchman's day ended with acceptance, friendship, and a brand-new umbrella.
